Recently i started watching a European tv-series (to detox myself from Hollywood), called «DeadWind». From the first scene i recognized the set: it’s mostly filmed in the Finnish capital, Helsinki (or Helsigfors). I felt lucky i immediately identified the city and let me explain why: being on the road with a motorcycle and living like a rock ‘n roll band on tour, every day i set for a new destination. Just imagine, after some weeks of staying every night to a completely new place, you reach to a point that (Bob Seger’s song «Turn the page» describe successfully) «..you don’t feel much like ridin’, you just wish the trip is through..». Sometimes, when i re-discover my old photos, i do wonder if i really visited all the places i see me pictured. So, let’s find out if the city of Helsinki is one of these cases...

Daughter of the Baltic: Helsinki - Stara Varos Blog

Among others, i saw depicted the compact city center: the City Hall and the open-air Market Square in front of it, the Helsinki Cathedral (its plan is a Greek Cross with four equilateral arms), the statue of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, the Uspenski Cathedral (an Orthodox Church dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos), the SkyWheel Helsinki, the port and the super-cool neighborhood of Katajanokka with the notorious 1837 Russian-built ex-prison, that was operating until 2002 and then converted into a hotel in 2007. Also, the numerous scattered beautiful small islands exiting the south harbor and the Swedish-rule era fortress of the Suomenlinna island.

But, was i really there?
